Adjusting a Rolex Oyster bracelet is a skill every Rolex owner should have — and it’s easier than it looks. The Oyster bracelet’s link system allows for precise sizing at home with minimal tools.
What You Need
- A watch link removal tool (available for $15-$30) OR a small spring bar tool and pin punch
- A soft cloth or watch pad to work on
- Patience and steady hands
The Process
- Place the watch face-down on a soft cloth
- Locate the links with arrows stamped on the inside — these arrows point toward the pins that can be removed
- Insert the link removal tool into the small hole on the pin end indicated by the arrow
- Push the pin out from the pointed end toward the open end (following the arrow direction)
- Remove the link(s) you want to eliminate — typically remove from both sides of the clasp equally for balance
- Reinsert pins from the opposite direction (against the arrows) until they click securely
- Check fit: the bracelet should sit comfortably with room to slide one finger under it
Using the Easylink Extension
Current Rolex models feature the Easylink 5mm extension built into the clasp — push the small button at the clasp center to release 5mm of additional circumference. This is ideal for temperature-related swelling or immediate comfort adjustments without removing links.
When to Go Professional
If you’re removing more than 2-3 links or dealing with stuck/corroded pins, visit an authorized Rolex dealer or watchmaker. The bracelet can be damaged by excessive force.
